Report

Well this would have been a great game to watch from the sidelines. A 10-goal thriller. Except it was a bitch of a game to play in from a Partisan perspective. Another second half wipeout. 4-3 up to a loss of 4-6. Toddy's were a Scottish team on tour. Partisan welcomed back Mikhail Loubov to the set up after 10 months recovery from a horrible injury last October. He started up front with the pacy Perazich. And Scouser Chris Johnson made an impressive debut in the middle of defence. First 10 minutes - plenty of shots on goal. Both sides tentative. But then it exploded into life. A beauty of a cross from the sideline and an even better header at the far post got them off the mark. 1-0. Mellis on for the temporarily injured Loubov, saw the keeper off his line, and chipped him. A goal of the year contender. 1-1. Mellis claimed another when Burgmans set him up cutting in from the byline and crossing. Mellis on hand to steer past the outrushing goalie. 2-1. However Keaty fell asleep and allowed players to get by him twice - one soloing all the away home himself, and the second interchanging 1-2s in the box. In the meantime Appel had cleared miraculously off the line and they managed to miss another open goal.2-3. Their defence looked porous but they had some very powerful tackling midfielders who were doing a lot of sweeping up. Perazich got in on the act, taking a first time shot that curled all the way into the corner of the net. 3-3. We also had other attacks that just required the man on the ball to look up once - if I had 1 koruna for every time "Joe Cole" Martinez hit the side netting in that first half, well, I'd have, eh ....about 6 Koruna. However he did get his toe to a pass from an intricate movement started by Loubov. From about 5 yards out Martinez notched up our fourth goal. Half time 4-3 Schoolboy stuff. Lets not think about the second half too much. Wayward passes. Loose marking. No shape. And above all, wasted, wasted opportunities up front. Its no wonder Dan Finlay was champing at the bit to be allowed loose in midfield. We hit the underside of the bar, missed open headers, and numerous overlaps. And they scored 3 scruffy goals in the second half, and actually they deserved them. If you can take your chances- thats what its about isn't it?
