Report

After 2 disheartening defeats that took us a way off the pace, this was Partisan's last chance to notch some points before the winter break. Guri was runing late so Taghavi started up front with Finlay; Sheppard and Burgmans took the centre mid and Parker and Schuchardt paired up in the heart of defense. Partisan put pressure on their opponents from the start. First chance came 10 minutes in when Finlay was sent clean through on a 1-on-1 with the keeper. He went to fire it low past him but the keeper got down quickly to make the block. Partisan continued to dominate the midfield and maintained possession while the Pocernice defence held firm. We were eventually rewarded for our patience when a ball was put through for Fitzgerald, storming in from the right wing. The Pocernice keeper, who up to that point had been having a good game, spilled the ball under pressure, and the winger had an easy job of shanking it into the net. 1-0 Fitzgerald was involved in the build-up to the second goal, with some neat interplay between the winger, fullback Sablack, and captain Sheppard eventually releasing Taghavi in the right channel. He hit a deft, placed shot from a tight angle past the keeper and into the bottom-left corner. 2-0 There was a scare for Partisan not long after when a ball into our box from the left bounced high and over Simunek's head in the six-yard box. Fortunately Olubokun was on hand to clear up and as it fell at his feet he neatly circumvented a Pocernice striker and put it to saftey. Partisan's third came after a Finlay corner. The ball was half-cleared, but only as far as Taghavi. Twice he fired in, each time seeing his shot blocked. After the second block the ball span towards Olubokun who was able to head it out towards the edge of the box where Parker was still lurking. It bounced awkwardly for him but he shaped well to hit a left-footed half-volley past the keeper. Shortly after the half-time whistle went and Partisan were able to return to the dressing room with a safe cushion between them and their opponents. Half Time: Partisan 3 - 0 Dolni Pocernice C In the second half we had the wind behind us and we upped the onslaught. A corner won early on was curled goalwards by Finlay. It's debatable whether it was the wind or his intention (as he had stated before the match that he could only score from corners with his old Predator boots), but it sailed over the keeper and into the top-right corner. 4-0 Partisan made the first subs at that point, with Guri, who had shown up at half time, coming on for Taghavi, and Matthews on for Fitzgerald. Guri was soon in the box hopeful of a quick goal, but an Olubokun cross sailed just over his head. Guri then had a couple of solo efforts, and the prescient Child on the sideline was moved to comment that having come on late with a comfortable scoreline, the Albanian would have to shoot at least three times before he passed to anybody. Final substitution was Child on for Sablack at right back. The fifth goal followed, another Finlay effort from a corner, except this time it was Sheppard taking the corner and Finlay timing his run perfectly to clip in with the outside of his foot just as the ball came down on the six-yard line. Soon after that the Albanian had his third strike as a great run by Olubokun on the left took him past two Pocernice players and into the box where he squared for a Guri tap-in. 6-0 Child's prediction was then proved correct as Guri broke into the box on the left and this time opted to pass across goal from the edge of the six-yard box. Finlay was running in and although a Pocernice defender got a toe to it, he only succeeded in tapping it on to Finlay who finished the job and put it in the net for his hattrick. Not long after the whistle went, the ref possibly letting Pocernice off a little early, and Partisan could trudge off content with 3 points, a clean sheet, and a hefty slice of goal difference.
