Report

Ive got to admit that driving up to the pitch I started to feel really excited at the prospect of playing football. After 20 years of playing I was still surprised, and relieved, that Im still enjoying it as much as I always did. This was even before our magnificent win!! Big Phil, my-job-is-safe-as-long-as-Im-winning, Alexander started himself on the bench citing a tweak in his lower back. Im afraid for his playing career as he is going to suffer with more back pain once the baby arrives! A shortage of centre backs brought the unfamiliar, but highly competent, pairing of Schuchardt and Guri together and they dominated from start to finish. Benson got a start up front with our boy-band impersonator, Fredriksen. The midfield had last years player of the year, Burgmans, and the always improving Sheppard, marshalling the ever impressive Dynamo midfielders. Johnson got a start at his new position, right back. The game started with Partisan keeping a good shape, nullifying the quick Dynamo strikers. Chances for both teams were subdued in a tactical start to the game. The game came to life when a throw-in was flicked on in the box by Fredriksen, with Johnson arriving from right back to head the ball into the net. 1-0 to Partisan. I can only remember Dynamo having one noticeable chance in the first half and that was tipped over by Simunek. Partisan continued to press Dynamo but found it difficult to keep the ball. Alexander and Finlay came on for Sheppard and Bugel mid way through the first half. Half Time: Partisan 1 - 0 Zizkov At half time the emphasis was on trying to keep the ball better and to give the forwards more support. The second half started with Sheppard coming on for Burgmans and Bugel coming on for Ross. Dynamo started the second half much better and out Partisan under pressure but without actually creating any clear cut chances. Still Partisan were giving the ball away cheaply. It looked like it was going to be a long half until a clever ball across by Finlay saw Benson dummy the ball only for Johnson to get his second of the match. Did he say he was playing right back?! The Partisan back line was finally breached when a sloppy pass allowed the Dynamo striker to slot the ball into the net. Game back on! Or so you would have thought, but to Partisans credit this seemed to be their wake-up call, as for the first time in the match they started to dominate the ball and knock it about quite well. Bugel was released down the right; he looked up and pulled the ball back to Fredriksen who coolly restored Partisans two-goal cushion. The last of the subs saw Benson go off for Bugel and Ross come back on for Olubokun. Partisan increased the lead again when an Fredriksen header was directed towards goal via the inside of a post. Sheppard tried to claim that the goal was is but we must be fair and say that it is Fredriksens goal. Late on Dynamo did pull one back thanks to a good cut in form the left and a neat finish. All in all this was a good 4-2 victory for Partisan over our local rivals. Although our passing needs to be improved we can be encouraged from a very solid looking team performance as we worked hard and defended well at times. A special mention should go to Fredriksen and Guri for their outstanding performances.
